Hurley and Davies were commissioned by a Swansea based Care Home provider to design a new 16 Bed Care Home on the site of a derelict care home in the village of Skewen, on the outskirts of Neath.

The site constraints presented many challenges with the design development of the Care Home, however these have been overcome by ‘thinking outside of the box’ and the final design will provide a Care Home that is contemporary, fit for purpose and will provide a functional and pleasant environment for the future residents.

Hurley and Davies Ltd are proud to share that we have once again been awarded Constructionline  Gold accreditation, demonstrating our continued commitment to our clients in providing an outstanding quality of service and the highest levels of compliance within the construction industry.

Why is Constructionline important?

Constructionline makes supply chain management simple by connecting construction buyers with a vast database of verified suppliers. Constructionline ensures that suppliers meet a range of standards which have been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and approved by the government.

Using standardised pre-qualification questionnaires such as the PAS 91, buyers can easily see whether suppliers meet required specifications, enabling them to quality check supplier information, save money, increase efficiency, and reduce risk.

What is Gold Membership?

Gold membership is awarded to suppliers who go above and beyond PAS 91 with enhanced validation checks that evidence they operate to the highest standards. These include health and safety management, environmental management, quality management, cyber security, equal opportunities and diversity, Modern Slavery Act adherence, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies. Gold members have also proved that they meet the Common Assessment Standard , as championed by Build UK and the Civil Engineering Association CECA, which covers areas such as environmental management, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and corporate and social responsibility.

Time to celebrate, on the 16th February 2023, Hurley and Davies Ltd handed over the Skatepark to Mumbles Community Council (and in particular Pam Erasmus) with whom we have worked closely to assist in delivering this fantastic addition to the Swansea waterfront!

A huge thanks is extended to Maverick Industries who were the design and build contractor for the project who have been engaging throughout the whole process and demonstrated an exceptional quality for a complex build.

We are very proud of our involvement in this project. Well done to everyone involved!

Hurley and Davies were delighted to collaborate with Vinci Facilities to provide full contract administration services for the external redecoration of Nexus House, Newport, a Welsh Government building housing Newport City Homes and the UK Passport Office.

The 5-storey building required substantial scaffolding and the project was F10 notifiable under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. The 12-week programme was successfully managed and co-ordinated throughout resulting in a project that was delivered within budget and without issue.

For the building to remain 'business as usual' and disruptions to be minimised, provisions were made for staff and members of the public whilst the works were undertaken. Regularly scheduled site meetings allowed contractors and the client to address potential issues or risks as they became known which ensured clear communications between all stakeholders and enabled smooth project delivery.

Additional items such as corroded louvre doors, stained balcony soffits, and soiled boundary walls were also addressed under the project’s provisional sums and contingencies so that an excellent standard of finish was achieved across the entire external fabric of this impressive building.

Hurley and Davies have been instructed by Sodexo to undertake a condition survey of the below ground vaults at the iconic, Grade II listed Unilever House on the Victoria Embankment, London.

The aim of the report is to determine the condition of the building fabric and outline potential remedial waterproofing works.

The report will be utilised to allow the client to make a judgement on the ongoing economic feasibility of utilising the space in question.
